Special Projects at Kluge-Ruhe

Ricardo Idagi Artist Residency • Monday September 15, 2014

September – October 2014

Ricardo Idagi (Magarem) is a ceramicist and sculptor who grew up on Mer (Murray Island) in the Torres Strait and Townsville in north Queensland. During his residency, Idagi gave several gallery tours of his exhibition, gave a public artist talk at the Kluge-Ruhe Collection, and spoke about his art practice at local ceramics studio City Clay. Idagi led a mask-making workshop with more than 100 participants of all ages at McGuffey Art Center and worked with students in William Bennett’s sculpture courses at UVA to make headdresses inspired by the techniques used to make traditional headdresses called dari.
