Special Projects at Kluge-Ruhe

The ARTinstead Festival • Saturday July 11, 2015

July 2015

This event was an opportunity for the Charlottesville community to explore their role in the ongoing local, national, and international dialogues about race and identity. ARTinstead included drop-in art workshops, community dialogue, and a panel discussion with artists who address issues of race and identity in their work. Participating artists included Tony Albert (Girramay, Indigenous Australian), Gerald Cournoyer (Oglala Lakota, Native American), Frank Walker (African-American), and Madhavi Reddi (Indian-American). Together, we celebrated, respected, and learned about diverse cultures and identities in observance of NAIDOC Week, a holiday that honors Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and history.

Presented in partnership with the Embassy of Australia and UVA College Council.
